Here’s How I Am Working for a Better Montgomery County

Housing affordability

The Washington region is one of the country’s most expensive places to live. The cost of housing is a major factor, particularly affordable housing near jobs and public transportation. Over the long term, the best solution to reduce the cost of housing is to increase the supply. The Council also has a key role to play using its powers to create new housing that is set aside for our low income communities. Provisions I have championed include:

  1. Raising the requirement on developers to set-aside more dedicated affordable housing through MPDU’s in our lowest-poverty communities
  2. Dedicating more funding to the housing trust fund, where we loan money into housing developments that meet county goals
  3. Reducing taxes and creating incentives for housing developments that set-aside more units for low and moderate income individuals
  4. New master plans that, over the long term, will increase the supply of housing, particularly near public transportation
